Anne Sunila is a visual artist and a Doctor of Arts. She lives and works in Helsinki at the artist’s house of Lallukka and in her rural studio by the seashore of Halikko.

Anne Sunila’s artistic work is especially related to spaces and places in urban environment, but she has also taken as her starting point places in the natural environment. She maps the environmental experience of different milieu both visually and through writing. She promotes research-oriented art in her artistic practice. The process of her artistic work leads to long-term projects, which may also involve working in different countries.

Working on site provides the starting point for her works of art, which are mainly tempera paintings. Behind the art works lies an extensive mapping work in which her mediums are painting, drawing, writing, and photography. Knowledge based material also plays a part in the work process. The artistic process is always open situation to her and the final work of art is a multi-layered vision of place, milieu and their experiential reflection.
