Subreal 2010–2015

The works of art under the title Subreal are related to Anne Sunila’s artistic research in her PhD studies. The starting point for the research was the artistic project City Places, Paris – Helsinki. For the project she worked in both cities between 2009 and 20015. In the second phase of the project, she explored the theme during the summer of 2012 in Paris. The pieces strive to share a certain place, space, time and experience. The works form a spatial wholeness and were presented at tm-gallery 2015 in Helsinki.

One might ask, as the title of the exhibition Subreal suggests, how the painting relates to the actual place in the environment. In the course of the working process this question has revealed itself to the painter in a multidimensional way, meeting the challenges of artistic research for her doctoral thesis. The works present themselves and the viewer’s seat is open.
